2024 – Whisperings of The Taxus Trees

Beneath the canopy of 25 Taxus trees lies a mystical space hidden within Elisabeth Park, Brussels. On Sunday, August 18th, 2024, we invited an audience to step into this sacred space and attune themselves to the whispers of the trees.

As symbols of eternity, they are portals to other realms. For this project, each tree became a gateway to an artistic intervention, created in harmony with their voices. People were invited to bring their smartphone and headphones, as the artworks were accessible via QR codes, seamlessly bridging the ancient with the modern while preserving the sanctity of this natural space. As from today you can visit the Taxus trees in the Elisabeth park whenever you like and have direct access to all the artworks through this website.

Find the webpage with all the art works here.

This project is a research initiative exploring the history, energetic power, and properties of the Taxus tree and its relation to sacred trees at large. Through this intervention we want to highlight the importance of nature in the urban landscape and to remember that we are all nature, and that we connect with her at any time.

The art works are made by DIAN, Flor Maesen, HUMN, Iveesweet, Julia Dyck, Lennert De Lathauwer, MCMM, Karolien Polenus, and Quanta Qualia. The concept & curation of this work has been created by Karolien Polenus, is produced by Barra Movement and funded by the VGC.
